Update

Leyland National 2 230 LWE 230W has been involved in an accident and as a result has been broken up for spares and what has been left has been sent away for scrap.

MCW Metrobus 708 D708 NKY Has returned from Central works after its MOT and has lost Ben Shaws Adverts and is now in company Red, White and Blue, looks pretty smart to tell you the truth. I think the next to lose overall advert will be Scania 266 L266 LHE, this will proberly be when it goes for its MOT.

Scania 268 L268 LHE is at Barnsley for its MOT.
Leyland National 2 241 MWE 241W is still at Barnsley after an engine failure.
Leyland National 2's 242 NKU 242X and 253 OHL 253X have had new gear boxes fitted
Scania 265 has been off the road for about a month now, because it is waiting for a new gear box being delivered.

A new training bus for Huddersfield to use is Leyland National 2(Short) FAO 927V Ex Road Car 927 I think !!.
The Leyland Leopard has been bought by an enthusiast. Excuse the spelling.

Huddersfield's repaint list is as follows:-
National's 231,241,242,245,247(front and rear),and 256
Scania's 276,277,279
Olympian's 625,638,664,666,667,670,and 672
Metrobuses 707,708,709,and 711
Dennis Dart's 430,431 and 432
This leaves:-
National 237 and 253
Scania's 265 - 269,275,278
Metrobuses 705 and 716.

Log of Barnsley, Huddersfield, and Cudworht by TractioN on the 29th May 2001

Spotted
Off to Huddersfield today for a look at the millions of variety of buses calling themselves YTC’s.

On the 0950 from Barnsley on MCW L Metrobus 710 direct (via the planet) to Huddersfield. Now what’s wrong with operating a direct bus from say, Meadowhall, Barnsley, Huddersfield, and possibly Manchester?

Straight to Waterloo then where in the yard was :-

Leyland Olympian 666 670

Scania 277

Inside depot 705, 256, 1 uni’d Leyland National, 275 (I think).

Nothing much else until I got to …

HUDDERSFIELD BUS STATION

Ok, my first proper look round Huddy Station today, and I thought there were a few people saying it has been re-done???

I hardly noticed a difference apart from :-

Annoying platform ends (anyone got names for these)
A one way door system (outside platform z) – to aviod this, go through the car park exit (that stinks) … but why the door.
Annoying doors that won’t open. I mean, what do you do when theirs an emergency.
And a sign saying "Sorry for the wrong info yesterday, 28 May 2001"
Just three of my pet hates of Huddersfield (besides the sun is never in the right place).

So, take more photos and then back to Waterloo to see if Scania 276 is around. Anyone know where it is??? I got 705 which was out of the shed, and then discovered the 235 home runs 20minutes late on weekdays.

Eventually got the 235 home (nooooooo, it was 710 AGAIN).

Barnsley & District – nothing special part from a Metrobus in Halifax JOC livery, and a Metrobus looking like it was in Go Green livery (as I type I forgot the company name).

Got back to Barnsley, and the next visit was YTC Barnsley. Nothing much there apart from 241 (Still) with it’s rear cover up.

Next to Cudworth to see loads of old stuff on land that belongs to one of the Carlton Scrap men. All I could see from the gate was :-

662 B662CET YTC Livery (ok, this was broke down across the road, ably assisted by YTC National 252.

Also …

One Leon un’id,

Yorkshire Rider (YR)

5248 (I think that should be 6248), and

NAT354M

plus a Wilts and Dorset VR,

RJA703R (Fingland)

First London GYE434W

Stagecoach Leopard ???275V (269) and

Leopard XPM876X

Also smashed by vandals ( I assume ) were ex Yorkshire Rider’s 6246 6260 6355 and KW?219V.

Hope this helps,

And sorry for going off topic on all three groups, but I couldn’t be bothered to split the post.

Comments, queries, corrections welcome. Though if you do, please snip appropriately.

Update

311 should be ready to return to Shafton soon and this will see the withdrawal of 302-306, probably to B&D.

234 has been painted at Barnsley

T3 by TractioN on the 23rd May 2001

Spotted

Leyland National 2 FAO927V latterly Road Car 298.

It is now in service from Huddersfield depot. It is green and yellow (Terrier livery) with big, black, bold, block capital lettering on the yellow on the side stating it's a DTU.

It's fleet number T3, so I can only assume the ex Andrews' Leopards T3 has now been withdrawn.

USR by IanB on the 22nd May 2001

Spotted

A couple of observations from Upper Sheffield Road earlier......
MCW Metrobus 708 is in for a full repaint, and thus will loose its distinctive 'Ben Shaws' allover advert. Also in for re-paint is Merc 311.

De-roofed Olympian 639 now has a roof, and is in the process of having lights, windows etc fitted.

Lynx 286 is undergoing a full refurbishment.

Coach 1 (6078 HE) has had all logos, fleet numbers etc removed, but is still in 'coachlink' base colours.

No sign of any Kirn though!

  • 286 still being refurbished.
  • 230 awaiting continued police investigations after accident, could be repaired even though damage is severe. Coach ? stripped of lettering, but still in CoachLink colours, reg 6078 HE. (1)
  • Ex H&D Olympian A189 KUM painted in all white, forgot to look at legal lettering but I think its a dealer in Essex.
  • Kirn gone from USR.

  • Strathtay C. Forbes on the 21st May 2001

A further acquired minibus is 181, but I have no more details on it, as it is dumped at Arbroath. 3 more Tigers have also been acquired as 436 (D439XRS) from Stagecoach in Bluebird. 437/8 (D277/8FAS) have come from Stagecoach in Fife.

Ex Andrews 435 (E214RDW) has been reregistered 365DXU, but I do not yet know the new mark for the previous carrier of this registration, Tiger 426 (originally D316SGB)

436 arrived back from Ferrymill this afternoon freshly attired in the OLD coach colours (ie no blue back)

    Update

RV1 *may* not be chopped up as previously thought. :) It was being put through MOT prep work today.
The Atlantean isn't now planned to be converted, not sure what will happen to this now as its tax runs out in the next month or so.

T3, LAO 927V, was outside the paintshop today ready for use.

    News

418 has been painted, also has the standard 'Budgetcard' advert on the back. This will eventually spread to all vehicles with each depot being done in line (and they might get BudgetCard ads as well). Also buses that pass through the paintshop and those at Barnsley are gaining new, improved red litter bins. For some buses i.e. Darts this is the first time they have had them.
