Lathalmond houses more than just buses. Although mainly bus related, such as buses converted to tow-wagons, we also have vehicles with no connection to buses, and site utility vehicles.

Peterhead Parcels Office

ParcelOffice01_WebOwing to the pending closure of their Peterhead Depot in April 1998, Bluebird Buses asked the museum if it would like the fittings from the Parcels Office, and various other historic fittings. Following a survey of what was on offer - which turned out to be a fairly substantial section of the depot's ground floor - the potential of some of the fittings, including a magnificent craftsman-built counter, was obvious.

With the closure of the depot scheduled for late April, there was no time to lose. On Friday 10 April, three stalwarts and one son, equipped with every conceivable tool, including a jemmy, set off to recover the interesting bits. In less time than anticipated, the counter was dismantled into three main sections (see photograph) and made ready for transportation. The following weekend, saw another three volunteers heading for Peterhead in a Luton Van where, assisted by two locals, the loot was loaded and brought back to Lathalmond. It is intended to re-create the Parcels Office in the exhibition Hall. Thanks to Bluebird Buses - special thanks to Tom, Shaun and Sandy at 'Peterheid'.
