THE SCOTTISH VINTAGE BUS MUSEUM - 2001 STAGECOACH PERTH VINTAGE BUS RUNNING DAY

Stagecoach Perth organised a Vintage Bus Running Day for June 9th 2001. They requested the assistance of qualified driver- and conductor-members of the SVBM and we jumped at the chance. Several preserved Stagecoach buses are kept at Lathalmond and, although three had been taken to Perth earlier in the week for a private function, another couple plus privately owned AWG 393 and VD 3433 went up on the day. We assembled at Lathalmond at 8am and headed for Perth Depot where we joined up with Stagecoach staff to make up the required crews. The photos below show some of the buses at Perth Depot after re-fuelling, and a couple of ex-Western SMT deckers in action on the day.
(If any other photos taken on the day are available I'd be glad to receive them for this page.)

Left: Some of the buses in Perth Depot awaiting the action. Shortly after the photo was taken, we headed for Perth city centre bus terminus for a 10am start.

Right: Following a late lunch, I was hoping to take some photos, all I saw was the Ex-Western Lowlander UCS 659 leaving Perth .....

..... and left, the ex-Western PD3 RCS 382 returning for me to rejoin following my lunch break. (I asked to drive RCS 382 as I used similar buses on frequent trips between Glasgow and Beith in my winchin' (courting) days. This type of bus did the number 15 Glasgow/Ardrossan via Clyde Tunnel run.)

The Running Day was from 10am until 5pm and WE hope it will be repeated next year. The weather was mixed, but the flat fare (5p I think) helped to attract decent numbers.
