THE SCOTTISH VINTAGE BUS
MUSEUM - 2008 RUNNING DAY
SVBM Running Day - 18th May 2008
Following on from the 2007 Running Day, the 2008 event was
planned to be even bigger. The successful “Bus Station departures” format was
retained for 2008 and expanded to include two additional routes. The service to
Townhill (basically a short-working version of the Dunfermline Service) was
included to provide another route which the older vehicles could be used on at
a leisurely pace. The Kelty Service was included to give added variety to the
journeys available.

The 5 external services operating from Shed 4 Bus Station
generated 64 offsite journeys meaning there was a bus departing on average every
6 minutes. Just enough to keep the Bus Station staff on their toes throughout
the day! With a further 39 internal journeys visitors had plenty to choose
from. The “Wee Bus” also provided internal journeys at various times during the
day. 40 different vehicles were scheduled to be used during the event, around
one third of which were covered by visiting vehicles.

Another innovation tried this year was the “Familiarisation
Saturday”. Morning and afternoon sessions were organised to give volunteers a
chance to find out what was required of them and for platform staff to learn
any of the routes they did not know. To complete the day, a social event was
held on Saturday evening.

With the Railway
Group, Museum Shop, tractor display, stalls, model boat display and onsite
catering complementing the main event, there was something for everyone to see.
