ABOUT US
The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum is now the acknowledged focal point of historic bus restoration and operation in Scotland and houses, on a 49-acre site, around 170 vehicles. Most of these vehicles are of Scottish origin and are in varying levels of condition, from dilapidated to fully restored.
The SVBM is run on a purely voluntary basis. Management
is undertaken by the Management Group which consists of the
trustees (the museum is a registered charity) plus members whom
the trustees consider to be sufficiently committed to the
cause. On Sundays, the main 'work-days' at the museum, most
of the management group and several regulars normally work at the
museum, joined by members who visit on occasion. The place
is a hive of industry, with people working on their own buses,
helping others, carrying out site maintenance etc. They can
also help out with any specific tasks pre-planned by the
Management Group. For special occasions, the total
membership is contacted with requests for volunteers.
The highlight of the year is the 'Open
Weekend' which sees the on-site vehicle numbers greatly
increased by visiting buses and commercial vehicles. In 2005 this
will take place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August.
The Sunday of the Open Weekend sees the 'Scottish National' Road Run for Historic Commercial Vehicles. On this day, vintage
vehicles leave the museum mid-morning for a road run, returning
2-3 hours later. There is usually at least one vintage bus which
visitors can board for the run.
In addition, we host events for other organisations. On 19th June 2005 the Fife Historic Vehicle Club will hold a rally for the 6th year running. Photos from all events related to the museum are detailed in the 'Event Photos' page.
In 2006, the museum will be open to the public every Sunday from Easter to 1st October. Visitors are taken on a guided tour of the site and the storage sheds in a vintage bus, starting and ending at the Display Hall - where visitors can spend as much time as they wish. The Display Hall accommodates several buses in ideal conditions for taking photographs and getting an all-round view, and houses the museum cafe and shop.
