THE SCOTTISH VINTAGE BUS MUSEUM - 2002 EDINBURGH CLASSIC BUS RUNNING DAY
The 9th Edinburgh Classic Bus Running Day - organised by the Edinburgh Transport Group - took place on 9th June in typical 2002 weather WET! BXA 464 B (FRD 199) gladly accepted the invitation to participate and arrived in good time. As my co-owners were all otherwise occupied, it was left to me (says he grinning) to handle our allocated service journeys on my own - ably assisted by conductor Dave Forrest (and my grandson Andrew).
The route - changed from the last time I took part in 2000 - with the same 'home' terminus at Silverknowes and the 'away' terminus at St Andrew Square, was Silverknowes Promenade; Marine Drive; West Shore Road; Granton Square; Granton Road; Ferry Road; East Fettes Avenue; Comely Bank Road; Orchard Brae; Queensferry Road; Hope Street; Charlotte Square; George Street; St Andrew Square.
| The service observes all normal bus stops on the
route and passengers are encouraged to board and leave
the buses frequently, so they can travel on as many buses
as possible. Buses run at ten-minute intervals from
around 10am until around 4pm. BXA 464 B at Silverknowes with Martin Denman's ex-Fife Scottish Leyland National RSG 825 V |

I did four runs at a round-trip time of 1 hour, 10
minutes. There was only 2 minutes allowed between
arriving and departing St Andrew Square but traffic was
fairly light and the time-keeping was not too difficult.

| I thoroughly enjoyed the day, as did my nine-year-old
grandson Andrew who has been biding his time over the
last few years waiting impatiently for Grandad to
let him join in the bus events. He had his photo taken by
The Herald photographer but as far as we
could see it wasnt published. Back at Silverknowes, BXA 464 B fronts a line of buses comprising mainly Lothian/Ex-Lothian deckers. (The interlopers show that even at an enthusiasts' event car drivers give no consideration to buses.) |
