THE SCOTTISH VINTAGE BUS MUSEUM - 1999 EDINBURGH CLASSIC BUS RUNNING DAY PARTICIPATION

On 20th June 1999, a few of us took a couple of buses over to Edinburgh to participate in the sixth Edinburgh Classic Bus Running Day, organised by Edinburgh Transport Group.

The photo on the left shows museum resident ex-Edinburgh Corporation Transport 314 (JWS 594) at the furthest point on the route, the outer terminus at Dunsapie Loch.

The day takes the form of a free bus service from Fairmilehead to Holyrood Park via Morningside and Blackford Station.

It is a unique occasion for travel on vintage buses in Holyrood Park, which is specially opened for the event. The park is normally closed to buses and heavy vehicles, and is normally closed to all traffic on Sundays.

The service observes all normal bus stops on the route, but the only stop in the park is at Dunsapie Loch. Passengers are encouraged to board and leave the buses frequently, so they can travel on as many buses as possible. Buses run at ten-minute intervals from around 10am until around 4pm, with a shuttle service also running, between Edinburgh Bus Station and Dunsapie Loch at half-hourly intervals.

Buses used are mostly associated with the City of Edinburgh, but one not so was the museum's Hong Kong Guy Victory, on the left pictured on the day.
