THE SCOTTISH VINTAGE BUS MUSEUM - BO'NESS PORT 400th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

On the weekend of the 1st and 2nd September, Bo'ness - on the south bank of the River Forth, near Grangemouth - celebrated two historic occasions. and the Sunday saw celebrations for I'd be grateful for any photos taken over the weekend to add to this page.

The Saturday commemorated the 400th anniversary of The Port of Bo'ness. The photos to the left and below show the buses from the SVBM at their Bo'ness base prior to the start of the running day.
The running day consisted of a free circular bus service, starting and finishing at Bo'ness Railway Station which is home to the Bo'ness and Kinneil railway. The route, which involved some steep climbs, took us to the southern extremities of the town and latterly we had good loads.
I was lucky enough to drive four buses on the day: Edinburgh Routemaster on the way to Bo'ness; the two Bluebirds above on the free service; Western SMT Lodekka on the return journey to Lathalmond - that was hard going - I had to almost stand on the accelerator to keep it pressed down (not complaining Robin).

The Sunday was an extension of the Bo'ness celebration and to coincide with the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway Diesel Gala. The buses formed a static display, parked up adjacent to the railway.  Vehicles in attendance were the Western SMT LD, the Central Scottish FLF, the Bluebird Bristol MW, the Hong Kong Fleetline and the "Edinburgh" Routemaster that were all there on the Saturday, plus the Edinburgh rear entrance Y Type, YSG 101. The buses travelled over in lovely late summer weather and mostly returned via Grangemouth town centre and Kincardine Bridge.
