All Saints Parish Church Choir

All Saints Parish Church, Downshire Square, Reading, UK

Welcome to our homepage! All Saints Church has always had a strong choral tradition, and our small remaining choir still works to continue this tradition.

The Role of the Choir

The choir sings at the principal services in the Parish Church; The Parish Mass at 10:00am every Sunday morning, and Choral Evensong most Sundays at 6:30pm. Occasionally there are services during the week, and the choir will sing at weddings if the members are available. There are also occasions when the choir will lead special musical services such as the popular Carols by Candlelight service in December, and an Evensong in a village church at the end of the summer parish outing. The choir practices on Friday evenings.

Location

Our church is located in the south-east of England in a town called Reading approximately half an hour by train from London. The church is on Downshire Square, just off the Bath Road (the main road from junction 12 of the M4 into the town). See our photo gallery for some pictures of the church.

Tradition

All Saints Parish Church was consecrated on October 31st 1865, and has always had a strong choral tradition. This was based, until the 1990s on the ancient English Choral Tradition of men and boys, although now we include all young people. In the past the treble section alone has numbered around thirty, but presently the numbers are in single figures. A steady stream of new choristers is desirable, and the purpose of this website is to make our activities more widely known, and hopefully to get people to consider the benefits of belonging to such a group.

How to Join

The church choir are looking for boys and girls aged between 7 and 14 to sing Treble. No previous singing experience is necessary, as long as you can read, we can give you any extra training you might need!

We would also welcome men to sing Alto, Tenor or Bass.

I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the understanding also

If you know of somebody who might be interested in joining, please pass on our contact details.
