Regent III chassis ID needed

Could anyone help me identify this bus: Chassis # 9613E4914, Unit Q8511. The Title/bill of Sale indicates that it is a 1951. We are currently attempting to restore it but wanted a little more information about the bus. It is pretty complete and original except for the engine and drive train. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers! chuck.fields@eku.edu

Advice on restoring wooden body frames

i wonder if you could help in some way. Iam very interested in purchasing an rt for restoration, the one thing that does frighten me is the wooden frame..can this information regarding replacement of these parts or is there replacement parts still available? The rt i am thinking of purchasing is a saunders body type.from what ive seen of it from a walk around not all the frame is rotten. It starts and drives the platform and the floor are also rotten. Am i flogging a dead horse here? For my budget of around £2500 3000 would you know of any other rt for sale in better condition but in need of some tlc..my last question i live in the middlesex area would you know of any underroof garage of where i could store and repair it? If so please could you contact me either by email or phone 07930165666 any information or help or even to be pointed in the right direction would be most grateful. Many thanks, Tony. tony_jeff@hotmail.com

Suttons post-war Regals

Back in 1946 I lived as a 16yr old lad, in Clacton-On-Sea in Essex. I frequently travelled to London to visit my Grandfather, using the coaches of Suttons. In 1946 there was a delivery of new coaches. My memory has always recalled one Leyland and one AEC. Subsequent reading has confirmed that two Leyland Tiger PS1 s with Duple 33 seat bodies were in fact delivered. Registered LVX 679 and LVX 680. Is my memory serving me false or was a duple bodied AEC also delivered to Suttons of Clacton in 1946 ? It would be great if you could confirm this and refer me to any pictures or records therof. Thank you. David Hawksworth, DHHWMH@AOL.COM.

AEC Regent for sale in Germany

Hello AEC bus enthusiasts, I've got an AEC RT for sale in Germany, either for restoration or breaking for spares (which would be the most horrible imagination for me!). Unfortunately it is in a horrible condition due to vandalism (all windows smashed). However, it ran perfectly, when I last started it about two years ago, although I am convinced that it won't be possible to drive it far without a prior intensive service. Due to the fact that the private car park, where it is stored since about eight years, is for sale now, I've definetely got to remove it. AND I DO NOT WANT TO SCRAP IT !!! So it urgently needs a new (good) home! Lack of time and space will not give me any chance to restore it, so I am desperately looking for an enthusiastic owner for this car. We had a lot of fun using it during the Nineties attending Oldtimer meetings and race events, but now it needs a complete restoration. Originally I bought it in 1987 and used it until 2000. It was regularly serviced in those days (brakes, mechanics, etc.) incl. new woodwork on the lower deck in 1996. Not being sure about the year of building, I was told it could be either a 1939 or 1948, 1949. I really don't know it exactly, because I never had any registration documents. It was always driven on red trade number plates. The chassis no. is 4331, the reg.plate shows LYR 714, it's got a Weymann body. It comes along with a spare part list and workshop manual, as well as original hats for driver and conductor. I haven't got a clue about a reasonable price, but this is less important than knowing it will find a good home. The bus is located in Hagen, 10 miles south of Dortmund in the Ruhr area and I know, transport won't be easy. Even if you personally are not interested in it, there might be someone else you know, who could be. So please help to save it, I am absolutely sure, it is worth it! Otherwise I wouldn't have stored it all those years. More details on request, but please only contact me, if you are seriously interested, no time wasters please! Looking forward to hear from you, Christoph Gockeln, gockelnc@aol.com

Help with Regent identification

I've recently discovered some old photographs which include many AEC buses. I'm particularly puzzled with one picture that shows a left hand drive AEC Regent. History of Reliance AJD 528C

Hello from Australia. In 1975, I travelled with a group of 35 quite mad Aussies and Kiwis, 1 South African and 1 lovely English girl who must have been totally out of her mind - for 3 months around Europe, starting in London and travelling as far as central Turkey and back. I am now writing a book about my travels (it was quite a time) and wonder if anyone can give me any details on old faithful, to help with my research. I have another photo in which the number plate is either AID 528C or AJD 528C. The old girl broke down in several places, but always managed to perform this miracle near a beach - the best breakdown keeping us for 4 days at Alasya, on the Turkish Mediterranean. Cheers for any help. Greg Honeyman, 111 Station Street, Malvern, Victoria 3144, Australia. greg.h@honeyman.com.au

AECBus adds: AJD 528C was a Reliance 2MU4RA model with centre entrance Plaxton body new in 1965 to Essex County Council. Can anyone add any subsequent history information?

Can you help identify this Australian AEC?

My husband and i have purchased an AEC bus which had been partly converted to a motorhome and then scrapped. It has been sitting in a backyard for ten years and no-one can tell us what year or model it is. Her original colour was green and cream, she has a mid mounted motor. The previous owners drove her from Western Australia to Queensland in the early nineties and have since moved on and cannot be contacted. Is there anyway we can find out through previous registrations(WA) the year and model? Betty Wait, Captain Creek, Qld. creekers@westnet.com.au

AH691 and 760 engine swap

Is there anyone out there who can tell me if I can change the sump and starter motor castings from an AH 691 engine onto a 760 so as to keep the rear 691 engine mountings, starter motor position and oil filter position to the original 691 positions, The 691 has side position starter motor and front oil filter whilst the 760 has a top mounted starter and rear oil filter. Only reason for asking is that my 691 is tired and have been offered a good 760 to keep my wonderful Reliance on the road. A simple can/cannot be done will save me considerable time and expence. Duple Britannia NDL 869

I am a member of the IOW Bus Museum and am trying to keep some records of ex Island vehicles currently extant. The above coach, new to Shotter, Brighstone and latterly with a number of owners, was auctioned in Coventry some years ago at the disposal sale of a vintage operator in the Slough area. Apparently, the coach was sold to a new owner in the north of England. Do you have any idea whether this coach still exists and if so who the owner is? I recall it was in good condition prior to sale, had been driven to Coventry from the Slough area and was driven away, so I assume a future away from the scrapyard beckoned. The sale price was at the time way above scrap value. Any information would be appreciated. Kind regards John Haines, JOHNITH99@aol.com

Athens AECs

Hello you bus enthusiasts! I am residing in Athens, Greece and some local folks pointed out the existence in the past of AEC constructed buses in Athens metropolitan bus service (It is still public company). These were of the type with electropneumatic gearchange, and were one-floor buses. Double decker buses have never been used here. The only exception being a small number of Leyland buses used during the eighties. Could you please provide us here with some information regarding these Athens' AECs, if possible? AEC A220 train engine manual wanted

Hi, I am restoring the only surviving Cravens DMU and was wondering if anyone has for sale/swap/loan/copying an AEC A220 engine overhaul manual and/or parts cat? The Cravens has 2 x 6 cyliner horizontal A220 units mounted underneath the vehicle and we have recently been lucky enough to locate and purchase a spare. We have a mass of spares from Cranks thro to heads, rocker gear, liners, rings, main and big/little end bearing kits, injectors etc. So the rebulid of all three engines is possible but without a manual could prove difficult. Two engines run and the spare turns over but we think there is some bearing damage to it! Yours Hopefully, Graham Thornton, gt_hymek@hotmail.com

Routemaster values

Hi Bus fans, I am seeking some wisdom about the secondhand market in Routemasters fairly urgently.......Can anyone help?... We are buying a very late standard RML in ex service condition. Its got a new MOT / the brakes have just been overhauled / The body is a bit tatty, about 5 panels need changing and it needs a respay. The engine is Iveco and seems to go fine as its done a few long runs recently. The interior all looks a bit tired but this is not a problem as we are going to do a conversion. What might such a vehicle be worth, given that there are few on the secondhand market. ANY QUICK FEEDBACK ANYONE CAN GIVE WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED. colin.pearse@ntlworld.com

Harrington bodied Reliance available for restoration

We have just rescued an AEC Reliance Harrington Wayfarer 4 (417 FKL) from a travellers site in Suffolk and wondering if anyone has any information/help in restoration or perhaps history... as you can see from photo's the bus (poor thing) needs a lot of work and don't really think we've got the resources or time to do it justice so perhaps if you know of a transport museum or a dedicated group then probably it would be better for us to pass it on. In the meantime we're doing very basic remedial work to get it roadworthy (tyres, grease points etc). Perhaps maybe up for px on something not as historically important. It is NWB 420K, which carries Castrol Oil livery, its last user, i belive as a staff bus. It was purchased by its current owner for its engine, it's gearbox is also absent, & the interior is missing. I am assured that it was driven in, to its long term resting place, & has been here approx ten years. It could be available should anyone be interested, but serious enquires only. I have a contact number, should anyone want it, please e-mail me. Regards, Dave Robinson. coachexpert@blueyonder.co.uk

Help identifying Australian AEC

Hi I am after some information. I have inherited a AEC bus, my father in-law just bought a block of land and it had a bus on it that they didn't want. It looks bad in the picture but it was only parked there about 3 yrs ago. My question is can you please tell me what model/year this bus is. I'm going to do it up and renovate the inside back to the camper it was. I am also looking for manuals and wiring harness drawings to help with the renovation. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thank you, Damian Sime Director AMPT Services Ph: (08) 9478 6987 M: 0417 000 126 F: (08) 9478 6976 Email: dsime@ampt.com.au

453 AUP info wanted

I’ve seen an AEC bus in a farmers field and would like to try and find out some more about it. The registration is 453 AUP and it is liveried in Wilkinsons colours. The road tax ran out in 1994 but it still looks really good. Could you please let me know how I could find out more about it. Thanks Anna Powell, annapowell111@btinternet.com

Info wanted Harrington Grenadier FUU 84C

Dear All, I have recently viewed AEC Reliance 590 FUU 84C and would much appreciate any information about the vehicle's past life. It is a Harrington Grenadier bodied model and appears to have been configured with an unusual 2 plus 1 seating arrangement from new. The vehicle is presently employed as a race-car transporter (philistines!!!) but it would be of great interest to me to know it's history prior to conversion. The Harrington website simply lists it as a race transporter with no clue as to the operator(s) that it worked for as a coach. Any shred of information would be very well received... I can be contacted at mum.kenward@btinternet.com or luuk78@btinternet.com Regards Luke Smith / Charles Kenward

Aussie Regal mechanical query

Greetings from Australia, the home of many AEC Regals. My bus served its time in Perth, Western Australia, with the fleet of AECs for MTT. There is a website that lists these buses and their service history from the original shipment from South Africa. Apparently, the Regal VI was manufactured there as chassis units for export. This information I gained from Net research,so original members may know otherwise. I purchased my 1964 Regal VI in Perth, still registered and transporting school groups in 1999. Since then, I have basically fitted it for living, added an extra fuel tank and batteries, and a 12 volt solar system. From the West, we have travelled on the East coast to the Cairns area, and the Whitsundays , and to New South Wales on an annual basis. It has the 690ci horizonal midships 6bore diesel with the low gearing, so flat strap at 80kph. I`ve recently had the injectors done and the seals replaced in the pumps. Also a complete rewire in the dash. So she is firing like a rocket now.
But here`s a weird problem I hope your mechanical brains can assist me with. In recent times, I've been getting a tide-rise in the sump. At first I thought diesel was getting into the oil. But at this point, the gain is 50% of volume in 5minutes. There's no smell of diesel in the oil, and then after 12-24 hrs the level returns to the correct mark on the stick. Is it compression leaking into the sump? Someone must have some ideas. If so please email Richard at rmustchin@yahoo.com.au
