THE SCOTTISH VINTAGE BUS MUSEUM -
2007 RUNNING DAY
MAY 2007 RUNNING DAY - A New Venture
When it was proposed by the Committee to drop
the May event, Roland Williams volunteered to organise a 'Running Day'. His idea was to create a Bus
Station in Shed 4 and to operate scheduled services throughout the day. A team
of volunteers was assembled and plans for the event began to take shape. It was
decided to operate 4 routes:
1 -
Internal Service (around the museum site)
2 -
Dunfermline Service (via
Bowershall, Townhill, Dunfermline and Wellwood)
3 -
Saline Service (via Gask, Redcraigs, Steelend, Saline and return)
4 -
Gask Loop Service (via
Gask and Redcraigs)

When
the routes were finalised
and timed, a set of time boards were produced for each journey and, as further
information became available, vehicles and crews were allocated for each
journey.
Since
Shed 4 and Building 20 were to be the centre of operations, Event Control was
moved to this area. This also had the advantage of giving an overview of most
of the site.
In
Shed 4, three stances were set up using our newly acquired crowd control
barriers and at 10:00 scheduled services started under the watchful eye of
"Bus Station Controller" Bob Sadler.
In
the course of the day 39 external services departed along with 7 scheduled
duplicates. These were complemented by a further 39 internal departures
supported by Ross Secular's "Wee Bus". All of the services ran
without mishap and only one service departed late. 32 vehicles were used on the
day, including 4 from our Glasgow colleagues and 2 from Lothian Bus Club,
giving an excellent selection for passengers to choose from.
The
main event was supported by a selection of stalls, a display of tractors, and a
few vintage cars.
Thanks
go to all of the volunteers, both members and non-members, who helped to make
the day a success.
Additional
attractions and improvements are planned for 2008 - don't miss out next year!
